BREAKING: Barcelona completes deal for longtime target
Breaking news from the Spanish and British media have given fans a little bit of good news as they strengthen their midfield.
According to a report first seen on Sportmail, Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign Paulinho from Guangzhou Evergrande.
The Catalans transfer fee would be 40 million euros which is the same figure as his release clause. Barcelona were hoping to seal the deal with 20 million euros but were met with strong resistance.
Guanghzou had become frustrated with the attempts by Barcelona and had threatened to report them to FIFA (Read here).
Sport has followed up on the news and reached out to Barcelona who have confirmed the deal. But the club are yet to officially release a statement.
Paulinho’s arrival would be Barcelona’s thrid signing this summer. Gerard Deulofeu was the first to arrive, followed by Nelson Semedo.
The 29-year-old left Tottenham in 2015 after two years, to move to China and now returns back to European football. He played 67 times for Spurs during those two seasons, scoring 11 times.
Paulinho would be taking a pay-cut of 2million euros and now earns €5million net a year at Barcelona.
Barcelona have been following him for sometime now and he would sign a four-year-deal.
