Barcelona turn to Juventus midfielder as plan B if Verratti deal fails
Barcelona’s number one target this summer has been to strengthen their midfield. In addition to the midfield, a right-back is also need as well as center-back and winger.
But for the midfield, the Catalans have narrowed down their target to Marco Verratti. Everything has been put in place to make sure he leaves Paris Saint Germain.
Verrati has told the club he wants out, Barcelona have met with him and his agents, and the Catalans have also called PSG about negotiations.
But so far PSG have been fighting off all attempts to open negotiation. And Italian press reports Verratti has issued a warning to the club he would not be back for the pre-season.
Barcelona interested in Miralem Pjanic if Verrati deal fails
Nevertheless, Barcelona are looking at other possibilities. They are prepared to fight until the end for Verratti, but if they are unsuccessful, they are also looking at Miralem Pjanic in addition to Jean Michael Seri.
Pjanic was one of the standout performers for Juventus last season as they won the Serie A again and reached the Champions League final.
The 27-year-old’s pairing in midfield has been fantastic under Massimiliano Allegri. It’s not the first time Barcelona have shown interest in him and have followed him since his time at Lyon.
But his game style did not exactly match Barcelona’s system at the time. But he has become more central in recent times and has caught the eye of Barcelona’s sporting director Robert Fernandez.
And one key area of his game they are impressed is his defensive contribution, passes, shooting ability and technical ability.
