Barcelona closing in on first signing as they want to trigger buyback option
In the next couple of weeks Barcelona are going to announce their first major signing of the summer. And they would be strengthening their options down the flanks with the arrival of Gerard Deulofeu.
Before the season ended they had been speculations Barcelona were going to bring back Duelofeu. He first left Barcelona two years ago permanently, heading to the Premier League to join Everton.
His initial deal was a loan move in the 2013/14 season. And then he headed to Sevilla the next season for another loan spell, before returning back to Everton on a permanent basis in 2015.
Everton paid £4m for him to sign him but Barcelona put a buyback clause in his contract. Before the end of June, Barcelona can get back the 23-year-old for 12 million euros.
Catalan press had reported Barcelona were going to take up this option. But then other players like Ousmane Dembele became somehow available.
Dembele’s price could work in Deulofeu’s favor as TIMES reporter Paul Joyce says Barcelona are going to trigger Deulofeu’s buyback clause.
Barcelona are planning on moving Messi out of the attack into a more central role. And they intend to put this fact across to Deulofeu assuring him of game time.
