Barcelona states their decision on Javier Mascherano and his desire to leave
Javier Mascherano is under contract with Barcelona until 2019, but the Argentine has already informed the club that he wants to leave.
Mascherano was signed from Liverpool in 2010 and rapidly grew into one of the most crucial players in the club.
It remains unknown whether he wants to leave in the 2018 winter or summer transfer market.
However, Barcelona have made their stand and says they want him to leave. But Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has indicated that they would listen to the player.
He was quoted via La Nacion: “I am the one who signed Mascherano in 2010, I took a plane to go to Liverpool.”
“Our wish would be for him to stay, but I repeat, we are a human club and we’re going to sit down and listen to the player.”
In addition, Barcelona’s director of institutional relations, Guillermo Amor, told TV3: “The position of the club is that we count on Javier. Mascherano is a Barcelona player.”
“He has a great professional career and brings a lot to Barcelona. We want to continue to be able to count on him. There’s no doubt he’s a Barcelona player.”
Reports says Mascherano has received an offer from the Chinese Super League.
