Ronaldo aims subtle dig at Barcelona players as he receives his award… Read full comments
It has been a very wonderful 2016 for Cristiano Ronaldo with him describing it as the best in his career.
Among his many awards are Champions League, EURO 2016, Club World Cup, UEFA Best Player, Ballon d’Or and just recently, the FIFA Best Player.
Once again he beat arch rival Lionel Messi to the top prize at the FIFA gala that held Zurich, Switzerland.
But like the rest of his team-mates, Messi didn’t make the journey in favor of their upcoming cup game.
Ronaldo couldn’t contain his excitement and pride as he collected his award.
However, the 31-year-old would have rather wished his arc rivals were there to see him lift the award as he appeared to aim a jab at the absentees.
Here’s what he said during his speech: ‘This achievement is incredible on a personal level. Unbelievable, I will never forget this year. I am very happy. Thank you everyone, I don’t really have anything else to add.
The awards I think speak for themselves.
‘I’m just very happy…. I’m sorry some people from Barcelona aren’t here, but that’s understandable.’
‘It’s incredible, it’s not the first time but it’s the first of this. First and foremost I must thank my team-mates of Real Madrid and the coach. Thank you for everything you have done for me.
“I’ve also got to thank my family, my brothers, my mum, my whole staff 100 per cent for everything they’ve given me.”
