Cantona: “Neymar is 25 years and was playing for Barcelona… I wonder why he left to France”
Neymar’s move from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain in the summer left many spectators in complete shock.
Some were surprised at the fact that PSG decided to pay as much as 222 million euros for one player. And others were surprised by Neymar’s decision to even consider leaving Barcelona.
Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has slammed the Brazilian for his decision to leave Barcelona.
The French was expected to show his support for the improvement of the Ligue 1. But he could not yet his loyalty for France cloud his judgment about the transfer.
“When you are 25 years old and you are playing for Brazil and Barcelona, I wonder why you would move to Ligue 1 to play against Amiens or Guingamp?” Cantona said to Yahoo Sports.
“It’s not the point of view that I have on football and its passion.”
Cantona was also not bying the suggestion that it could be to win the Champions League.
“The Champions League? It’s only a maximum of 10 matches,” he continued.
“I just don’t understand why he came to play in France.”
‘I never really watched the L1. I’m going to watch what?,’ he added. ‘Play PSG against Guingamp? It does not interest me.
‘Does [Javier] Pastore still play PSG? I love Pastore. He plays very little? Too bad. Maybe that’s why I will not watch PSG. And [Hatem] Ben Arfa he plays? No ? So definitely I will not look at them’.
