Big blow: Barcelona announces shock injury as player is ruled out of El Clasico
The Barcelona first team were given some days off early in the week and returned to work out at the Ciutat Esportiva with their eyes fully set on Sunday’s Liga fixture.
Ernesto Valverde led the team in another round of training on Friday. But at the end, the club announced that Gerard Deulofeu picked up an injury.
The winger suffered a strain of the internal lateral ligament of his left knee during training and will be out for between seven and 10 days.
The statement read: “Gerard Deulofeu will be out of action for seven to 10 days, after straining ligaments in his left knee during the Friday training session at the Ciutat Esportiva.”
Admittedly, Deulofeu has not been a regular under Ernesto Valverde. But Barcelona’s biggest game of the season so far comes up on December 23 against Real Madrid.
And this means, Valverde would be without one option to include or consider in his tactical plans.
It therefore rules him out of the biggest game of the season at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. His chances of making the team were slim considering he has been in the squad in the last two league games.
The first team squad will train again on Saturday after which Ernesto Valverde will names his squad for the visit of the Galicians.
