Kylian Mbappe broke Ballon d’Or record
All through Monday this week, France Football reeled out the 30-man contenders for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
And the list had some notable names missing but some players would no doubt be honored to see their names included.
A majority of the heavyweights in European football were included and PSG hitman Kylian Mbappe also joined the list.
At just 18 years and 9 months old, Mbappe is now officially the youngest player to ever be nominated for the accolade, breaking the previous record of prolific Englishman Michael Owen.
Mbappe joined Paris Saint Germain this summer on loan and the Qatari-backed club would splash out 180million euros on him next summer to make the deal permanent.
The teenager broke onto the scene in incredible fashion last season at Monaco, helping them to a shock Ligue 1 title, and a spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Mbappe doesn’t really stand a chance of winning the award as once again, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are set to dominate.
Both players have won the award between themselves since 2008.
The winner for the 2017 Ballon d’Or will be revealed on December 6. And unlike the FIFA Football Awards, no gala will be held to honor the victor.
However, the announcement will be made in the month’s issue with the winner gracing the cover of the France Football magazine.
