La Liga president, Javier Tebas, finally responds to Pique’s angry comments towards him
At the ground to take part in the stadium renaming, Tebas had to bear the brunt of Pique’s ire after another below par refereeing performance.
Gerard Pique hit the news again on Sunday during and after their match against Villarreal.
After playing out a disappointing draw away from home, Pique walked off the field an unhappy man.
The Spaniard was disappointed with the referee’s officiating on the day as their penalty calls were ignored.
As he walked off the field, he appeared to point towards LaLiga president, Javier Tebas, and said: “did you see that?”
At the time, everyone thought he was refereeing to Tebas who has been critical about Barcelona in the past.
But since Tebas isn’t in charge of picking referees for matches, that theory has now been disproved.
Tebas himself doesn’t think the center-back was referring to him.
“I have reflected and I don’t think that Pique is addressing me,” Tebas said via Marca.
“I don’t think he even knew that I was in the stadium. I agree with him that it is necessary to look at the referees, which is what he asks.
“If it is because of what has happened in the last week, then it’s clear that the refereeing level must be improved.
“Things are said in the heat of the moment, when the game is over and there is no need to make a big deal out of them.”
