La Liga referees have taken their first action against Gerard Pique
Gerard Pique is one player who isn’t afraid to say how he feels irrespective of the consequences.
With so much effort to gag players and coaches to stop them from criticizing referees, people like Pique are only saying what everyone is scared to say.
Barcelona started their new years in a frankly disappointing way, and Pique thinks the referees were to blame.
Their first game against Athletic Club saw the referee deny Barcelona two clear penalties. Barcelona eventually went on to loose the game 2-1.
And most recently, their last game Villarreal where referee Iglesias Villanueva turned a blind eye to a deliberate handball by Bruno in the box.
Speaking after the first game, Pique had said: “we already know how this works” and after the second game he retorted: “Every week they give more reason to what I said [after Athletic]. You can see for yourselves [the refereeing decisions going against Barca]. It’s crystal clear what’s happened on the pitch today.”
Reports have now confirmed that the referee committee (Comité Técnico de Árbitros, CTA) has filed a complaint against Pique.
The announcement was made by committee president, Victoriano Sánchez Arminio.
A letter containing their grievances about Pique’s words has been sent to the Spanish Football Federation and the two games were mentioned.
