Leaked: One new detail of Messi’s new Barcelona contract
Lionel Messi’s contract current deal with Barcelona is up in June 2018, but his future is not a problem.
Messi and Barcelona have confirmed that they want to continue their union. And talks over fresh terms have progressed steadily and well between Jorge Messi and Josep Bartomeu.
So a deal of three years with an option of another year is on the table. And his buyout clause was bumped up from €200 million to €400 million. With the current changes in the transfer market, €200 million suddenly looked very affordable for Europe’s biggest spenders.
In addition Messi would earn €30 million a year after tax and the contract would be signed soon.
Lionel Messi to receive 50 million euros renewal bonus
As expected, Messi is going to receive a renewal bonus which is normal for every player. According to a financial report by Deloitte, Barcelona paid 64 million euros in renewal bonuses to player.
The report didn’t mention the names of the players, but Neymar, Mascherano and Busquets were the big names that renewed within that period.
Barcelona needed to make a big financial offer to Messi to show how much Barcelona value him. But the club also risked shooting the amount spent on players above 70 percent of revenue.
SPORT reports that a renewal bonus of 50 million has been agreed for Messi. And his amount is going to spread across the three-year length of the new contract.
This means a set figure would be paid every year in order not to hurt Barcelona’s financial books.
