Lucas Digne reveals the best advice Luis Enrique gave him when he first arrived
Lucas Digne was among the last set of player Luis Enrique brought to Barcelona. He arrived last summer from Paris Saint Germain as a 22-year-old, and doesn’t have much to complain about.
His 26 games last season was reasonable enough for him as he played behind Jordi Alba. Now 23, Digne reflects on first season at Barcelona as he sat for an interview with Mundo Deportivo.
“Luis Enrique is a ‘top’ coach without a doubt.” he began when asked about his former manager.
“Just see how many titles he has won with Barca. His work with us was very impressive. I wish you the best from now on.”
On his arrival, they was a lot of expectations from him as he spent the previous season out on loan at Roma. But he says Enrique sought to make him feel settled and told him to be himself.
“He told me to go myself in the field and not try to be a copy of Jordi Alba.”
“Enrique saw that I have good skills in my defensive work. He wanted me to use my skills to help the team whenever I played.”
“For example, to maintain the defensive balance in such an offensive team.”
“The best thing has been the feeling of playing in the biggest club in the world.” he continued.
“And the worst thing was not being able to win the most important titles. We will return next season to try.
