Guardiola clarifies Manchester City’s €150 million offer to Messi
Manchester City play and away game against Shakhtar Donetsk in what would be their final Champions League group game of the season.
City boss was at his pre-match press conference were he addressed some issues.
Among the topics discussed was a stunning report about Manchester City’s offer to sing Lionel Messi for free in June 2018.
According to the details of the report, with Messi yet to agree fresh terms with Barcelona at the time, City had put in an offer worth 50 million euros per season.
In addition to the massive wages, Messi was going to be paid 100 million as a signing on fee.
But Guardiola has denied such reports saying they were false and no offer was made for Messi.
“It’s not true. That was not going to happen,” said Pep.
Messi signed a contract one week ago. This was never going to happen.”
“Messi started his career at Barça and he’s going to finish it there.”
“If he wanted to leave he wouldn’t have signed the contract.”
And on the upcoming Manchester derby on Sunday, he added: “We play games to win them. I’ve told you sooner or later we will lose, but the next day we will recover.”
“I can assure you we’ll be going to try and win the game.”
