Cristiano Ronaldo gives Real Madrid one condition for him to remain
Clubs like Manchester United and PSG were given a big boost when news emerged that Cristiano Ronaldo was willing to dump Real Madrid.
The Portuguese stands accused of defrauding the Spanish government of over €14.7 million in taxes. His representatives have gotten in touch with Madrid chiefs, telling them of Ronaldo’s desire to leave.
A meeting has been set for this week as Real Madrid try to thrash out the issues completely. Ronaldo says he is seeking for a fresh challenge, says his decision is irreversible.
However, British paper Mirror Sport say Ronaldo has given Los Blancos one option of keeping him.
Real Madrid’s only hope of keeping Ronaldo is if they pay up his €14.7 million tax bill and other fines he could be slammed.
The 32-year-old would be interested in joining Old Trafford. But it remains unclear if United are ready to cough up £175 million – plus wages of around £400,000-a-week.
Sources close to the club say the final decision would lie with Jose Mourinho’s desire for his former player.
The duo both have huge ego’s – and that caused tensions when Mourinho managed Ronaldo between 2010 and 2013 at The Bernabeu.
Meanwhile United have remained tight-lipped as the row rumbles on, with PSG also observing closely.
Cynics claim it’s all a ploy by Ronaldo and his super-agent Jorge Mendes to upgrade his contract. But the star signed a mega five year deal last year and his camp claim his only motive to leave is the tax slur.
