Valverde equals Pep Guardiola’s record at Barcelona
Less than six months since he took charge of his first official Barcelona, Ernesto Valverde is already equaling the record of the legendary former Barcelona manager, Pep Guardiola.
The victory against Celta Vigo at the Camp Nou on Thursday night meant Valverde has taken charge of 22 games with Barcelona without a loss.
It was the longest unbeaten streak Guardiola ever managed during his time in the dugout at the Camp Nou.
In those 28 games, Valverde has enjoyed victory in 22 of them and has drawn just 6 games, while Guardiola won 23 and drew 5 of his 28 match unbeaten run in the 2010/11 season.
But the Barcelona boss is a long way off the current record holder, Luis Enrique who went 39 games without experiences a defeat in the 2015/16 season.
The Asturian won 32 on those games and drew seven
Ernesto Valverde was naturally delighted after the dominating performance of his players in their 5-0 win against Celta.
“The first half was extraordinary on every level” he said. “We were fully concentrated against an opponent who we respect very highly and who have made things difficult for us this season.”
“Leo Messi and Jordi Alba have been scoring goals and creating dangerous chances all season. They are players that always find each other and that have struck some great form.”
