Here’s the personal reason why Luis Suarez didn’t attend the FIFA awards
Barcelona announced on Monday that their players would be absent during the FIFA awards in Zurich.
Instead of Messi, Iniesta, Pique and Luis Suarez making the journey, only Barcelona’s president Josep Bartomeu, and other directors attended the ceremony.
In the statement released by the club, their second-leg game in the Copa del Rey against Athletic Bilbao was the reason while the players stayed back in Barcelona.
But with 48 hours from Monday to the game, many criticized the excuse as unreasonable and slammed Barcelona’s players for the snub.
Spanish media went further to report that the main reason for the snub was an internal problem between the players and the club directors.
During their first leg game against Athletic Bilbao, no director was at the stadium to show their support for the team.
However, while that may the reason for the absence of Messi, Iniesta and Pique, Luis Suarez had another reason to skip the ceremony.
According to SPORT, irrespective of the decision of his team-mates, Suarez was never going to attend the gala.
The Uruguayan missed last year’s FIFA Ballon d’Or and wasn’t also present in the previous two years.
It’s n coincidence he has been absent and the reason is his anger with FIFA for their lengthy ban after his ban on Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 World Cup.
Suarez was given a nine-match international suspension and a four-month ban from all football activities.
He went a ste further and put a call through to FIFA telling them he wouldn’t be available.
